Eastern Europe

Need: Book translation project

The first two years that I spent working in Eastern Europe I met with several missionaries trying to ascertain what we might do to be able to help them in their ministries. They all reported that after Communism took over the governments, the Bible Study helps that had been translated in their respective languages were all destroyed and the great need now was for this kind of literature.

As a result, with the financing of the Rawlings Foundation, we began translation work for Harold Rawlings book, Basic Baptist Beliefs, in Russian, Polish, Romanian, French, German, and Slovakian. The Polish, German, and Romanian translations have been completed and are now published, printed, and being distributed through Baptist churches in their countries. The Russian translation is being printed now, and will be used in the 17 CIS states that we will be visiting and contacting pastors through 2011. The Slovakian translation is currently underway.

This has been a wonderful project because the long term results will go on for the future generations.

The book is translated in the native language, edited by at least three people; a Pastor, a layman, and a professional editor before being printed. It is then printed and made available to the local pastors for their own use. The book is also copied onto a c/d and that is given with the book so that the Pastor can download and copy individual chapters to be given to his people as lesson sets.

This is proving to be a very effective method for teaching. The book has been so widely accepted that it is now being used by Bible Colleges and Seminaries as a text book for Baptist doctrine. Our thanks to the Rawlings Foundation for their vision, prayers, and support that make this project possible.
